YOUR big bend elopement guide

Eloping is becoming an increasingly popular option for couples who want to celebrate their love in a more intimate and personal way. And what better place to elope than in the breathtakingly beautiful Big Bend National Park? With its stunning landscapes and rugged wilderness, Big Bend is the perfect destination for couples looking to tie the knot in a unique and memorable way. In this guide, we'll walk you through the steps to plan a stress-free and unforgettable elopement in Big Bend National Park.

Planning Your Big Bend Elopement

First things first, it's important to consider the best time of year to elope in Big Bend. The peak season is typically from November to April, with cooler temperatures and fewer crowds. However, the summer months can be just as beautiful, albeit much hotter. Keep in mind that the park is remote and has limited services, so it's essential to plan ahead and pack accordingly.

If you're planning on getting married in Texas, you'll need to obtain a marriage license from a county clerk's office. There is a three day waiting period and both parties must be present to apply. You'll also need to provide identification and pay a fee. Once you have your license, you're free to tie the knot anywhere in Texas, including Big Bend National Park. It is important to note there is only one officiant in Big Bend so I would suggest going to a local or your favorite courthouse and getting the marriage license there!

When it comes to logistics, there are several options for getting to Big Bend, including driving, flying, or taking a bus. I would suggest driving. If you are coming from the hill country, there is a cute little park called South Llano River State Park that is about an hour outside of San Antonio and it is a lovely spot for a camp site, with Big Bend being a 6 hour drive from there.

There are also several accommodations options within and outside of the park, ranging from campsites to luxury lodges. Here are a few of my favorites.

Choosing Your Big Bend Elopement Location

Big Bend National Park is home to a variety of stunning landscapes and breathtaking views, making it the perfect backdrop for your elopement. From towering mountains to winding rivers, there are plenty of options for finding a secluded and meaningful location that fits your personal style and preferences.

Some popular areas within the park for elopements include the Chisos Mountains area, Santa Elena Canyon, and the Rio Grande River. Each location has its own unique beauty and level of difficulty, so it's important to consider your fitness level and comfort with the outdoors when choosing a location. Keep in mind that some areas may require permits or have restrictions on weddings, so it's important to plan ahead!

Basically there is something for everyone, from the through hikers to the more upscale travelers who want comfort.

Working with a photographer who knows the landscape and the locations is huge when booking your elopement. From back road adventures to the surrounding cities, we know it all.

Making Your Big Bend Elopement Personal

One of the benefits of eloping is the ability to personalize your ceremony and make it truly unique and special. Consider incorporating meaningful traditions or rituals, writing your own vows, or choosing a unique ceremony location that holds special significance to you both.

There are also several vendors in the area that can help make your elopement more special, such as florists, musicians, and chefs. Consider hiring a sustainable chef to create a romantic dinner under the stars, or a musician to serenade you as you exchange your vows. or even rent a 4x4 to spend the day away from others and have a secluded ceremony with a view most people don’t get to witness.

The point is, there are so many options to choose from!
